Viewing change - compare/timelapse
Overview
The current compare tools do not allow users to select a group of images, instead a user must scroll a list and draw each image onto the map to compare. We are currently adding a timelapse feature to create videos/gifs of change.
My Role
- Worked with company stakeholders and users to understand painpoints
- Created wireframes
- Produced all high fidelity mockups for this feature
Current compare flow
User clicks on "Compare" button and drags images one at a time to the screen to compare. Most users of the compare tool know a specific range of dates they want to compare "this image vs 1 year ago" or "this location before and after x event".
Wireframes
The main goal of this redesign was to change the paradigm from dragging individual images onto the map, to allowing the user to select a batch of images, and then move into a mode where they could focus on visualizing change - either with compare tools or with a timelapse. Users also needed a way to embed and or share these out.
Mockups
I created the mockups in sketch, making sure to adhere to our product style guide and the ease at which the feature could be "componentized".
Solution
This design aimed to improve a few things: create a paradigm that moved users into a "Change" mode where they could compare imagery, create timelapses, and share these out.
